The Lancaster County Garden Project is an outreach-oriented program coordinated between United Way of Lancaster and Lancaster Parks and Recreation Department. The primary goal of the garden project is to use the garden as an open classroom that will address gardening techniques as well as health and nutrition. Additionally, residents of Lancaster County can use the garden to furnish their dinner tables with the sort of fresh, healthy, pesticide-free fruits and vegetables that are often out-of-budget for struggling families. Lighten Up Lancaster County Coalition is a group of concerned individuals, organizations and employers, in partnership with Lancaster General Health, who want to increase the number of children and adults in Lancaster County who are at a healthy weight.
